Wow if I had known what I know now back when I was asking questions like How to decide what to do with my life I’d be a much wiser richer man. That said I wouldn’t be any happier and here’s why.
I’m not going to bore you with the day to day details of my life but I will tell you that I’m not sitting by the pool drinking something with an unnatural colour for a drink. That’s the cliché of the internet lifestyle, for me it’s much more basic than that and that’s the way I choose to live. That’s the nugget right there, the way I choose to live. I don’t have to get up at a certain time, I choose to. I don’t have to work today, I choose to.
Don’t get me wrong, I do have to work and I do have to get out of bed but I choose the when, where and how although two feet first is usually the best way to get out of bed… Note the word usually 
Have to decide what to do with my life
Like the rest of the world I asked myself the question how to decide what to do with my life and the answer came back… Just pick a career that you might be interested in that has a good wage. So that’s what I did and of course along the way I got a car and a mortgage etc. just to make sure I had to keep working until I was 65.
The idea of being self-employed or starting my own business always seem daft to me. Sure I understood that you have freedom but we have a family business when I was young and I know how much work is involved with premises, staff, accounts, stock, legal stuff etc.
I had a light bulb moment some years ago that made me realise that the negative parts of running a business are all part of running a traditional business and most of them are not part of running an online business.
It wasn’t long before the light bulb turned into a full online business. In a little less than a year I was able to quit my job and work for myself fulltime. What a big step but what an amazing step. I know this will seem crazy but there are days when I feel guilty because I’m enjoying what I’m doing so much. I was brought up to believe that work was something you had to do to pay the bills not because you enjoyed it.
Wider look at the working world
If you’re asking yourself the question how to decide what to do with my life I encourage you to take a wider look at the world. The normal way of living, the traditional career with a cubical in a dull office isn’t the only way. The younger you grasp this the more of an advantage you have over the rest of the world.
At the start of this post I said I wouldn’t be any happier and it’s true. It’s never too late to make the change and start your own online business. If you’re older then maybe you’ll have to work a little harder at the start but it’s never too late to build the life you want.
